What Is The Monster Appreciation Society?
I came up with the idea of the society first and foremost, for fun! I have always loved monsters, so the year it was established is my birth year.
I want fellow monster lovers to feel like they are part of something that accepts their enjoyment of the strange and the silly. Who knows, it may grow into something more in future…
Why Monsters?
I’m not entirely sure!
I think the love came from the fear of them originally, a way to make something frightening into a friend.
As a child I was convinced there were monsters under my bed, I saw creatures that I’d seen in movies pop out from behind lampshades, or peep through the cracks in doors. I really thought that they were real!
I think also it has something to do with always feeling like the odd one out. School for the majority of my childhood was unpleasant, bullying was not only from my peers but occasionally teachers too.
I’m just a silly weirdo to my core, and as I grew older, the more comfortable I was with embracing it!
