About Me
Hi, I'm Emily, incurable romantic and independent artist based in the UK. I grew up in a haunted house on top of a hill, near to an ancient neolithic barrow called 'The Fairy's Toote' which has a history of strange happenings. It is perhaps no surprise then, that I ended up passionate about all things folklore!
I am trying to capture that feeling that I had as a child when I truly believed in fairies, magic, and monsters really did live under my bed. My favourite medium is watercolour and I occasionally dabble with sculpture too.
My calling is to create worlds, creatures and characters that don’t exist that can inspire adults and children alike. The nostalgia of that magical place that only existed in my imagination is what I strive to bring to life.
My other loves include growing fruits and veggies, cooking, designing and sewing my own clothes.
A Word About AI
AI is anti-human. It goes against everything I have spent my life mastering - hand made craft. I am against the use of generative AI for ANYTHING relating to art, music, writing - any creative field. It has no place here. Were I to use it as part of my process, I would lose everything which is unique about my art. The reason my art looks the way it does is down to my weaknesses as much as my strengths, and this is what makes it unique.
By generative AI I mean any program that you can type into and say ‘make a picture of a bear riding a horse’ or ‘write me a song about dragons in the style of a folk song’ or ‘write a book about a boy and a giraffe’. I include ChatGPT in this.
These systems would not work without the mass-theft of art, music and writing that have been stolen in order to train programs like ChatGPT and Midjourney etc.
People are rapidly losing the ability to problem solve, to think critically and to be creative because of these ‘tools’ that the billionaires are telling us will improve our lives. They are being pushed HARD and yet there is no concrete proof of the benefits to us as humans.
Aside from the negative effects on our brains, the massive data centres necessary to power these useless systems are destroying the environment and ruining the quality of living of the people who are unfortunate enough to live near where these huge data farms are built.
Choose human made art.
